A 19th Century Bugis Sulawesi keris. |
The keris sarung is old and the buntut was repaired a long time ago. Although not a proper south sulawesi-styled buntut. |
Top sheath made of kemuning wood. Bottom stem made of angsana wood. |
Some visible crack line on the old sampir. Seems to have a 'Y' chatoyance on the top sheath. |
The antique elephant ivory hilt is well-carved with floral motifs. The brass ferrule (pendokok) is a 2-piece construction). |
The carved ivory hilt, from another angle. Simple pendoko for this piece. |
The arabic 'Allah' carved at the centre of the ivory hilt is clearly visible. |
The endless knot motif found on the top of the hilt. |
Wengkon lines is visible. The blade was coated with wax, when first received from Netherlands. |
Profile of blade. Good Bugis sepokal blade. |
The blade had been cleaned. |
